Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

@CherryBomb I've read a bit about HearingVoices, and it does sound good. But I can't even mention "Voices", as far as she is concerned there is nothing wrong with her, it is me who is saying these things and so I need treatment. She wants me to come in to the sessions with her, which I think is a good thing, but so far the psychiatrists' response has been "We don't do things that way".

In our last Carer's Support Group Education session I was given the name of one who would, but so far she hasn't gotten back to me.

That's good news! His persistence must have gotten to you at moments of lucidity...a long hard process but between you there seems to be a lot of trust and deep willingness on your part to work on yourself

I'm new as well...not sure what to do either

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

@hope77, that's really positive to hear that your brother was able to help you challenge your thoughts. It sounds like remaining calm and not putting you down was key. Have you been able to continue using that technique of challenging your thoughts?

Yes I have a son with chronic schizophrenia

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

@hope77 wow your brother sounds so patient. @Fatima and @leitor care for someone who is experiencing psychosis. Do you have any advice on how they can challenge their loved one's thoughts and voices when they really believe them?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

@Former-Member I'd like to try, I've read a lot about it but it is very confronting when you are accused of saying things you would never think of, or being physically attacked in the middle of the night. I was hoping to get some time with a psychologist/counselor familiar with the LEAP program, but I haven't been able to locate anyone trained in it here. For me it feels a bit like trying to drive after reading about it but not having had any lessons, but I'mm going to try my best.

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

yes I have but it has a downside you do tend to hesitate before you say what you think or feel

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

Hi @BRIANNA it's so hard knowing what to do or say. How are things these days with your son and you?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Challenging Psychosis: Working with Thoughts // 23 Aug, 7pm AEST

The reason CBT and most other major approaches (as in Psychotherapy) is because people with psychosis dont have anything wrong with their thought processes. It is what they are experiencing that is throwing everything out of whack!
