Here's a thought,
Say we look at illness, not just mental illness but all health problems,
& if more than one person has a particular complaint,
then its a problem for, in escalating order,
a pair, a group, a cadre, a whole crapload of people.
Its an outbreak, a syndrome, an endemic, an epidemic, a pandemic.
If we regard the society and environment as having a problem then the addressing of that problem should be the concern of all those affected.
The whole society.

My self awareness came post diagnosis. A much clearer insight into my limits, boundaries and allowing me to concentrate on the positive and learn how to ditch the negative.

coal miners used to take a canary with them into the mines
if the canary dies, get the heck out
so we who are affected by MI are responding to what effects everyone
we should be thanked

Anyway, just to reiterate what I had said in my post before, I see my experience as a blessing. I've learnt so much about people, including myself, having gone through it. It inspired me work in mental health as well so it's been really great!

good point JT
Empathy with others. Caring, being nurturing & helpful.
I'm going to bring up religion, so sorry in advance.
I think it was in the Gospel according to Luke: Take the beam from your eye so that you can see to take the splinter from your brother's eye.
