Re: My Mosaic

Thanks @Ru-bee

He will be the last male cat I ever get! I always get males cause they are cheaper to desex…. And I love ginger cats and the majority of them are all males.
I’ve had 4 males cats since I’ve lived in Sydney and 3 of them have had the exact same issue…. Blocked bladder/urinary track.

Re: My Mosaic

Oh I have had so many urinary issues with both of my cats @Bow , both my female and male, but worse in my male and of course it's more serious with them because of the potential blockages.

It's cost me lots of money and lots of stress and guilt, and of course I feel sad every time I know my cat is in pain or going through discomfort 😫 It just plain sucks!

I hope that your boy is feeling better after this procedure

Re: My Mosaic

Oh that sucks about your cats too @Ru-bee

urgh, I love having a furbaby, it’s such good therapy, but my gosh, they always end up costing me a fortune! ( I’ve had numerous blockages, one cat ate a piece of flooring rubber and was really sick by the time we figured out what it was, but he pulled through a big op. I’ve had a cat bitten by a tiger snake, he also got hit by a car and needed his jaw wired back together. ) I always say after an expensive vet visit,  let’s get pet insurance, but I never do!

this is my ginger boy being operated on this arvo

Re: My Mosaic

Oh gorgeous ginger boy!! 😻

Yes I 100% agree @Bow they're so expensive and make us worry, but its all worth it for the love they bring to your life

Re: My Mosaic

Vet just called with an update @Ru-bee  they were able to clear the blockage, but he is in critical condition still. His kidney function tests is extremely high, they are pushing fluids through to try and bring that done. And his potassium is also extremely high. They gave him an injection to protect his heart from the high potassium and trying to get that done too. Both consequences of the blockage. His not out of the woods yet.
she said with both those things as high as they were she was surprised he was awake and not unconscious 😩😩😩

Re: My Mosaic

Oh poor baby, at least you know that he's exactly where he needs to be right now, and that they're treating him. Those are scary things to hear though @Bow I'm sending lots of healing energy his way and I hope that the next call you get will be more reassuring. Keep us updated

Re: My Mosaic

@Jynx  can I tag you?
Just had an update from the vet about my furbaby. His gone from critical to serious, but stable. His potassium levels have come down, still a bit high, but much closer to where they need to be. So his heart is ok now. Won’t know about his kidneys for a couple more days, but his producing urine which is a good sign. He will be at the vet for a couple more days, flushing his kidneys out and recovering. Then he needs to be on an exclusive urine support diet, so will need to work out feeding the 2 boys separately.
ive been a sad anxious mess all afternoon, and when the phone rang for this update I was filled with so much dread. His still not out of the woods yet, his kidneys could be stuffed.

I have a psych appointment tomorrow. Don’t wanna go. Don’t feel like talking.

Re: My Mosaic

Oh jeez @Bow I must have missed this initially happening, but thank you for tagging me! Would be sooooo scary with your little precious darling in intensive care like that! No wonder you've been a mess hun, what a nightmare! I am glad that he's on the mend, and keeping all my fingies and toesies crossed for a swift recovery. How's your D holding up?

Re: My Mosaic

Only posted about it this afternoon @Jynx  he was a bit unwell yesterday but this morning much worse, so off to the vet this morning. Vet acted pretty quickly thankfully- she said that with potassium levels and kidney functions like he had, she was surprised he was awake and walking.

Male cats!

I still feel really crummy.

D is absolutely fine! She knows he is there, but has no real idea how serious he has been.

Re: My Mosaic

@Bow oh male cats better at hiding it are they? Poor lil guy!!

Yeah the crummy feelings would be pretty heavy hey, I hate the waiting and hate the not-knowing!! I'm always beside myself if my pets are unwell, so by all means let yourself feel crummy darlin! Do you have much by way of distraction, something to keep your hands busy over next few days while you're in vet-news-limbo?

Aww yeah she is still young hey, glad she's not too caught up worrying though.
